Kuhn Rikon 12-Quart Duromatic Stockpot Pressure Cooker Review

Kuhn Rikon 12-Quart Duromatic Stockpot Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received my 12 quart Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker a week ago and I've used it three times already. I was replacing my 30 year old 6 quart Presto cooker mainly because I wanted a larger utensil. I wasn't dissatisfied with my Presto, but until I tried this Kuhn Rikon, I didn't realize that such a gap existed in terms of quality.
I am so glad I chose this Kuhn Rikon 12 quart model. It is a very well built, heavy gauge stainless steel cooker with a nice heavy bottom to help heat it evenly. The handles are sturdy don't get hot while cooking on my gas range. The lid attaches and twists into place very easily with no awkwardness or sticking. The lid gasket is thick and heavy duty. There is no jiggler weight to get lost.
The unit is very quiet. It is so quiet that I almost didn't notice when it had come up to pressure the first time I used it. You have to visually monitor it until you reach your cooking pressure and adjust your heat source to maintain it. There is no escaping rush of steam or hissing jiggler to alert you. But this is in no way a drawback. The cooker comes up to pressure quickly, and thanks to the red lines on the pop up pressure indicator, it is easy to adjust your heat to maintain the desired pressure. The faintest wisp of steam escapes from under the top steam deflector during cooking.
If you want to release pressure quickly, you can push down on the central pressure valve with your bare finger without getting burned. It gets a little warm, but does not get hot. All of the steam is deflected by the round deflector on top. You can also push the pressure stem down with a spoon if you prefer.
There are no negatives with this cooker from a usability perspective. I believe it is the best pressure cooker on the market. The only thing stopping this cooker from completely cornering the market is the hefty price. If it were priced 50% lower, it would easily take over market share from other contenders.

Mirro 8qt. Pressure Cooker, Aluminum Review

Mirro 8qt. Pressure Cooker, Aluminum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this cooker for Christmas 2008 ( a Wal Mart purchase).
It was my first pressure cooker, and it cooked wonderfully (though it was a bit tight for two chickens); until it failed.
After about 6 uses, it would no longer establish pressure. The red pop up on the handle (indication that pressure was up and handle locked) started popping up to about twice the height it normally emerged from the handle (when the cooker worked) and steam vented from all around the handle junction with the lid.
I tried everything the book said to do. The handle was tight. I inspected, streched and oiled the gasket. No luck. I called Mirro (Wearever) and they told me to boil the gasket for 15 min. and then oil it. I did all these things, to no avail.
So I returned it. Now I'm going to try Presto.

Columbian Home 0707-1 Granite Ware 21-1/2-Quart Steel/Porcelain Water-Bath Canner with Rack Review

Columbian Home 0707-1 Granite Ware 21-1/2-Quart Steel/Porcelain Water-Bath Canner with Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Granite Ware 21-Quart Covered Preserving Canner with Rack is a light-weight, lidded pot with a steel canning rack. As promised, the rack holds seven quart jars and with a little ingenuity, it can hold nine pint jars.
This canner is larger than most burners and may cause stovetop surface stains when used for extended periods. It cleans easily, holds the temperature and seems well constructed for such an inexpensive piece.
The graphic on the Amazon product page shows the canner with the rack lifted up and supported by the edge of pot. I was a tad nervous about lifting seven filled quart jars but the rack, though light-weight, was up to the task.
The only issue I have is with the height. To immerse seven one-quart jars with two inches of water above the lids means splashing or overflow will happen. I found no work-around for this problem but, for someone like me whose needs are limited (about 100 jars per season) this canner is a great addition.
If storage space was limited in this household, I would have an additional issue with the size of the canner. That's not a problem for me but it could be a consideration.
For those considering purchasing this as a stockpot as well as a canner, look elsewhere. The steel and enamel coating are too thin for anything beyond boiling water.
I am glad I made this purchase, it suits our purposes well.

Capture the harvest's bounty at its prime for enjoyment throughout the year by canning at home. This 21-1/2-quart water-bath canning pot makes it simple to preserve jams, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and more. The unit's tall design allows an ample amount of water to cover jars (not included) for even heating and thorough sterilizing, while its removable wire rack holds up to seven quart-size jars at a time, keeping them safely off the bottom of the pot and slightly separated from one another. The rack also comes equipped with two elongated handles for safely lowering and raising jars during the canning process.
Constructed with a strong steel core and a stylishly speckled black porcelain finish, the pot delivers long-lasting high-quality performance and even heat retention, while its nonstick, nonporous surface ensures fast and easy cleanup by hand or in the dishwasher--a nice feature after a long day spent in a hot kitchen. Other highlights include a handled lid that promotes faster heat-up times, as well as looped side handles for convenient transport (use oven mitts to carry when hot). Can be used on gas or electric stove tops. Not recommended for glass stove tops" , the USA-made water-bath canner with rack measures approximately 10 by 14 by 16 inches.

Pressure cookers are gaining momentum as the new healthy, time-saving, and energy-saving way to prepare food. Pressure cooking also retains up to 50-percent more vitamins and minerals, and it requires less fat and oil when compared to other cooking methods, which means healthier, lower fat meals. While not a new method, the technology has certainly been transformed over the years to be easier and safer than ever. This three-piece set makes it possible to save up to 70 percent of the time and energy traditionally used in cooking rice, meat, and vegetables. Measuring approximately 12 by 18-1/5 by 16 inches, the set includes a 6-1/2-quart pot, a 3-quart pot, and a pressure-cooker lid that fits both pots.
Constructed in Germany of heavy-gauge Cromargan 18/10 stainless steel with a polished mirror finish, the cookware not only look great on the stovetop, but it also ensures long-lasting strength and high-quality performance from one use to the next. Suitable for any cooktop, including induction, the pots feature TransTherm bases that retain and evenly distribute heat, while their black, phenolic, ergonomically designed handles stay cool to the touch for comfortable transport. Best of all, the pressure-cooker lid provides safety features that help prevent excessive pressure build-up. For example, in the event of excessive pressure build-up, an alarm will sound to indicate that the heat needs to be lowered. With the lid handle removed, the pots and lid can go in the dishwasher for quick cleanup. A recipe booklet and complete operating instructions come included.
What's in the Box 6-1/2-quart pot, 3-quart pot, and pressure-cooker lid that fits both pots. 6-1/2-quart pot measures approximately 12 by 18-1/5 by 16 inches. 3-quart pot measures approximately 12 by 18-1/5 by 8 inches. Pressure-cooker lid measures approximately 12 by 18-1/2 by 3 inches.

Manttra Quick & Easy 6 Quarts Aluminum Pressure Cooker Review

Manttra Quick and Easy 6 Quarts Aluminum Pressure Cooker

I got this pressure cooker to tenderize very tough meats, cook beans faster, etc. I was a little worried since I never used a pressure cooker before, but this thing is really easy with clear labels for lock/unlock on the lid. A bright colored switch.
It also has a very sturdy design. It's worth 2x the amount you pay on amazon.
Caution: If you cook frothy things, boil off that stuff first, since it can clog the nozzles in the pressure cooker. That not something specific to this cooker, just a general safety tip for noobs to pressure cooking.

Mirro 12-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/Canner Review

Mirro 12-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/Canner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Instruction pamphlet is wrong: the 12 qt holds 10 half pints, not 13; 8 pints, not 10; 7 wide-mouth pints, not 8 (also fits 6 wide + 2 narrow) .
Now I want to do quarts, but don't think I really may. It says it holds 7 quarts. Five fit, in terms of side-by-side space, but both quarts and pint-and-a-half jars come so close to the top that I'm afraid to try it and maybe lose my stuff. This seems like false advertising.
I have however successfully done pints and half pints. I wouldn't buy it if you want to can anything over pints.

Deni 9700 Electric 5-Quart Pressure Cooker Review

Deni 9700 Electric 5-Quart Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After less than two years this unit broke down. Repeated heating and cooling caused the plastic pressure valve to break and I can't find a replacement so I have downgraded my review from 3 to 2 stars. The following represents an earlier opinion:
"After over five years of service my Farberware electric pressure cooker finaly broke down. The electrical conection to the heating unit (cooking pot) was not well reinforced and (as the cast aluminum pot was heavy) it finally broke.
The Deni fixes this problem with a completely different design with no stress being put on electrical connections lifting the pot out of the unit.
However, I still prefer the Farberware unit and would choose it over the Deni. When using the cooker in pressure cook mode the seal does not always operate correctly. This can cause the food to cook indefinitely without ever reaching pressure. The timer does not shut the unit down after the food has been cooked but turns it to warm. Food can continue to slowly cook for hours. This is aggravated by a timer beep that is hard to hear.
Further, the unit was advertised as stainless steel but it appears to me that the cook pot is aluminum. This is something of a concern as teflon linings wear out and there is a reported link between aluminum and Alzheimers.
I've used a pressure cooker for many years and swear by them. This unit is satisfactory but I wish for the cost they'd put just a little more thought into the design."

Just got this about 3 days ago, and I love it! It was the cheapest Kuhn Rikon, and I was a little nervous about it, but I love it. So easy to use. It is my first pressure cooker. I don't know how I lived without it. I have made rice pilaf, rice pudding, black bean soup, and cheesecake in it so far. It is made in India. The size is just right in my opinion. I was thrilled to get a Kuhn Rikon in this size for less than $100.

Kuhn Rikon 3043 Duromatic 6.3-Quart (6-Liter) Stockpot Pressure Cooker Review

Kuhn Rikon 3043 Duromatic 6.3-Quart (6-Liter) Stockpot Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am extremely pleased with this item. I learned how to pressure cook with this pot, and now I can have osso buco ready in well under an hour; and I actually prefer it done in the pressure cooker!
Get a Lorna Sass cookbook and go to town with this baby. My only caveat: I usually cook for just two or three, and the size of this pot is fine for that. Most recipes are written for a six quart pressure cooker anyway. Still, there are a few times I wish the cooker was a little bigger so I could cook a larger volume--making stock, for instance, or making a big batch of chili.
If you're cooking for more than a few, you might consider the 8 qt model. That's not a criticism of this pot at all--I wouldn't part with it. It's a tool in my kitchen which I use often, sometimes several times a week. Highly recommended.

All-American 25-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner Review

All-American 25-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a top quality product built for serious home canning. The quality is apparent at a glance. It's an intimidating machine at first, but it's actually simple, safe and robust if you follow instructions. READ THE SAFETY RULES on the first page of the manual and follow them to the letter! The instruction booklet is comprehensive and easy to follow. This is an adult piece of equipment...made for responsible adults. If you don't follow the safety rules, you will damage or destroy your pressure cooker, and you may get hurt doing it.
The only part of this machine that requires regular replacement is the safety plug. The manufacturer recommends replacing the plug every year or two before you start the season's canning. Also, the seal must be lubricated after every few runs with petroleum jelly. Other than that, you shouldn't need to buy any gaskets or parts to keep it running forever.
This model can handle 19 pint jars or 7 quart jars or 4+ gallons of food for your next cookout and it's built to last a lifetime. If you are going to do any serious canning, don't waste your money on an inferior tool. This is a great choice.

The high heat generated by a pressure cooker can kill more bacteria than a regular hot water bath, making this pressure cooker the ideal tool for canning vegetables and non-acid fruit. All-American's 25-quart pressure cooker/canner holds up to 19 pint jars or seven quart jars. Only All-American pressure cookers/canners feature an exclusive, precision-machined "metal-to-metal" sealing system. Clamping locks align the cover to the base, forming a steam-tight seal. This means no gaskets to crack, burn, replace, and clean. At the same time, the metal-to-metal seal permits venting under unusual pressure conditions, making the seal safer than conventional rubber or composition gasket cookers.
Crafted of the finest hand-cast aluminum, this durable cooker/canner features a stay-cool Bakelite top handle, geared steam gauge, automatic overpressure release, and pressure regulator weight with settings of 5 psi, 10 psi, and 15 psi. The attractive satin finish is smooth and easy to clean. Double thick edges provide added protection on points of heaviest wear. The total measurements are 16-3/4 inches high with a 12-1/4-inch inside diameter. All-American pressure cookers are made in the USA. This cooker/canner is not suitable for glass or flat top ranges.

This pressure cooker is amazing. Purchased it because it's failproof as far as it blowing up like the old style cookers. You can't get the lid off until the steam has dissipated. The meals are quick and delicious. The good part is that you can remove the nonstick cooking pan to wash it. The bad part is that if you spill something inside the part that heats the pan, it is difficult to clean out. I would still recommend it.
