The Bayou Classic cut about 45 minutes to an hour off of my brew time. Got three gallons of water to a boil in less than half the time of my kitchen range, and held a good strong boil for an hour. If you're a homebrewer looking to leave the stovetop, and go to an outdoor propane cooker, this is the one to buy.

Hawkins Contura 3.5 Liters Hard Anodized Pressure Cooker Review

Hawkins Contura 3.5 Liters Hard Anodized Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my 3rd Pressure cooker. I have a Hawkins 1.5 L little aluminum thang that is great for a quick cook of veggies or smaller amounts of food, and I have an Ultrex that is built like a large Chicken Fryer pan..flat, not saucepan shaped as is usual.
This was my middle choice, not large, not small. The perfect size for a 2-person meal. The mechanics are very simple, an oval opening that allows the lid to lock on from the inside of the pan, and an automatic steam release that doesn't use weights. It is complete with the lid, base and rubber ring. No weights to lose. The interior is non-stick. Love it.
The price is decent, the build is excellent, the design is well done and it works great. There's a million recipes on the web for you, and I predict you'll be using this little baby often.

Mirro 6-Quart Pressure Cooker, Aluminum Review

Mirro 6-Quart Pressure Cooker, Aluminum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have a glass top I would not buy this model
Amazon says the following in the description
15 lb. pressure control. Removable self sealing gasket. Safety fuse. Heatproof handles with reminder ring. Strong aluminum alloy. Rack and instruction booklet. Not recommended for canning.
It does not have a rack in mine, it does not have a 15 pound control, it is 10 pound by the instructions.
Amazon says nothing about cooking on a glass top, instruction Book says not to use on glass top stoves because the bottom has a concave in the middle that won't allow it to get up to pressure, Well I have a glass top and not wanting to send it back I tried it, came to a boil faster than a old (20 or more years)I own, Put the lid on and it locked fairly quick, maybe 5 minutes? steam started coming out of the top, I waited about 2 minutes and put the weight on, maybe 6 to 8 minutes it was bounceing like it should, so much for not coming up to pressure on a glass top stove.
The finish is super polished, Looks like stainless steel not aluminum. add photo does not do it justice.
After the test and using it once I found another DO NOT USE ON GLASS TOP,
so I sent a E mail to consumeraffairs@wearever.com today
here is what I asked
model 92160 6 quart cooker
Bought it on line at Amazon.com
the descripttion on their web site didn't say any thing about a glass top stove.

in the instructions saw that it might not come up to pressure on a glass top which I have,
I tested it with just water to see and it came up to pressure really fast, twice as fast as my old mirror 4 quart flat bottom pressure cooker I have.
so I cooked a resipe of rice pudding in the book and it did what it was suppossed to do, came up to pressure fast and cooked just like the book instructions time setting.
Then I was rereading the instruction book some more and I came accross this
Got it and in the page 2 of instructions and it says
do not use on flat glass top or glass ceramic ranges could damage cooker, this cooker has a curved concave bottom which will not make proper contact with the cooking surface which could result in damage to your pressure cooker.
what do they mean damage, is it going to blow up or what.
I can't understand why it would be any diffront than a electric coil wire stove top, it wouldn't contact the bottom any more than My glass top, in fact less ,,according to you to get proper contact you would have to use a gas stove only.
Is it safe to use on my glass top? 2-19-09

Fagor "Elite" Pressure Cooker Set Review

Fagor Elite Pressure Cooker Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Buy a pressure cooker if you think you'll use it at least once a week.
Buy this Fagor Elite pressure cooker set and you'll use it a lot more often. At home on ANY kind of range (smooth-top or coil electric, gas, induction), the two pots and their interchangeable lids add versatility to speed, and that equals more bang for your cookware buck (pardon the bad pun). The glass lid turns the 8-quart pot into a handy stockpot or pasta boiler. Put the lid on the 4-quart pan and, voila, it becomes that extra saucepan you never seem to have when you really, really need one. When dinner's ready but you're not (pressure cookers are rocket-fast, you know), replace the pressure lid with the glass lid to keep it warm without overcooking or drying out.
The stainless steel basket isn't big enough to hold a pound of long dry pasta, despite the photo, but it's the vessel of choice for shorter cuts like penne and rotelle, and for blanching filled pastas like ravioli and pirogies. Set it atop the trivet and it becomes the perfect steamer, whether you use the glass or pressure lid. And if it happens to fit a pot you already own, consider it a bonus.
Fagor pressure cookers are among the easiest to use and care for. Instead of a wobbling weight or a ringed post pressure indicator, Fagor uses a spring-loaded pressure regulator. Heat the cooker on high heat until steam begins to flow from the regulator, start your timer and then back off the heat to maintain a steady gentle hiss. Once you've found your stove's sweet spot, you're not chained to the cooktop. As long as you can see steam or hear the hiss, you can go about your other cooking tasks. Wobbling weight regulators can be thrown off if the pot is jostled, and sealed-system pressure cookers require a constant eye on the number of visible rings. The regulator is also the pressure release valve, engineered so that the steam dissipates and cools quickly. At six inches from the vent, the steam is warm but not hot enough to burn your skin. Remember, this is steam that's 250 degrees Fahrenheit when it's under pressure!
To keep the cook safe, Fagor pressure cookers have three locking mechanisms. The manual latch engages a pressure-activated locking pin that rises as pressure builds, keeping the cooker locked as long as pressure is present. The pressure itself pushes the flanges on the lid and pot together, creating a natural locking action. You'd have to be built like Mister Universe to force open a pressurized cooker. A small cutout in the lid exposes a portion of the gasket. If the pressure has no other way out, the gasket will stretch or snap, but will stay in place while the pressure escapes through the rim of the lid, not into the cook's face.
Odds are, whatever you pressure cook in one pot will be served with something you can prepare in the other as well. We use the 4-quart pot to pressure cook spaghetti sauce with quarter-pound meatballs in just 10 minutes under pressure, while the 8-quart pot and glass lid take care of the spaghetti. Every piece in the set, except the pressure lid and gasket, can go in the dishwasher. Your humble author uses Bar Keeper's Friend to take care of any really tough discoloration. Keeping the gasket clean is easy because it's so easy to remove and replace. With weekly use and proper care, a gasket lasts about 12 to 18 months. The money you save on energy will more than pay for a new gasket.
If you've never heard of Fagor or you're wondering if it's a brand a pro would use, Lola Bistro owner and head chef Michael Symon used a Fagor pressure cooker while competing to become Food Network's newest Iron Chef. He then went on to win his first Iron Chef America challenge, preparing one of his winning dishes in his Fagor. Although he's not officially connected to Fagor in any way, I can't think of a better endorsement.

Presto 6020 Options 6-Quart Electric Multi-Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

Presto 6020 Options 6-Quart Electric Multi-Cooker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like the person wrote in March, I think this is a great electric pot EXCEPT I CANNOT USE IT!
I brought 3 quarts of cold water to a rolling, hard boil in less than 15 minutes SET AT 250*F!
I had gumbo-soup to finish up so put almost 2 quarts into the pot and set it on the number ''2'' for 200*F. IT BOILED! That just is not possible at 250 feet above sea level, if the temperature control is working properly.
The auto shut-off on the control works but apparently the current shunt does not function at all when set near or above 200*F. It just goes full blast(full current).
Pros:
a) the stainless steel is quality steel;
b) the manufacturing shows no defects of any kind;
c) it is heavy but not too heavy to manipulate;
d) great size ... not too tall or too fat;
e) it is so pretty and shiny ...I've never had any cooking equipment that looks that good(in 30+ years ...).
BUT the "magnetic" control release really stinks. It can barely stay on with the weight of the cord. A clip is needed, badly. I mean bumping the cord and it falls off?!? Ridiculous!
And since I am unable to simmer anything, the pot is basically useless for the 90% of the intended purposes.
...
I wrote to Presto. If they have a fix for the so-called '' Control Master '' heat control I'll update this or write another.
I'd highly recommend this if it was not for the defective heat control.
...[UPDATE]...
Presto(NPI Customer Service) responded very quickly(next day).
They are sending a new '' Control Master '' heat control unit at no additional charge to me other than the time spent.
As someone else stated in a review of the non-stick version of this multi-cooker, the older model control unit works. I requested the older version but NPI Customer Service states that they cannot send the previous model of control and must send the new magnetic clip version.
If it does not work Amazon is getting this cooker back so for all concerned, let's hope it does.
I'll (try to) update one way or the other.
...[UPDATE]...
Presto was very fast about getting the new temperature control unit to me.
Unfortunately the new "Control Master" heat control unit (item|model # 21536) works exactly like the original control unit: it does not control the temperature.
PRODUCT IS WORTHLESS! ...except for boiling water when set on warm. It is great at that.
... such a shame. :(
Changing rating to 1 star ...& requesting refund.

Deni 6.5 qt. Electric Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

I just love this product. I have had mine over a month and have no complaints.
I bought it for my RV as we are in it quite a lot.
It won't heat up the kitchen like cooking on the stove would.
I love how fast and easy it cooks dishes to perfection.
My first try cooking I didn't quite get it right and had mush, but after that
I made sure the steam valve popped up and it cooked like a charm.
We had country style ribs for dinner last night. Yummmm.
I took it to work to show all the non believer's how fast you can cook a pot of beans.
Now they are sold too. I got the oval opposed to the round because I thought I would like it better.
I don't think you would be disappointed with this cooker at all.

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic 8-1/2-Quart Stockpot Review

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic 8-1/2-Quart Stockpot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned a six quart Kuhn Rikon Duromatic for about a decade. It worked great the entire time. But I recently destroyed it by leaving it on the high setting on a electric stove top with no liquid in it. The heat was so intense it delaminated the aluminum wafer on the base. So I just bought the 8.5 quart model. I love being able to cook lots of veggies all at once, so the increased size over my previous one is much appreciated.
The model I had for ten years worked flawlessly. It did require occasional maintenance about every five years when the spring pressure mechanism on the top gets a little sticky. I disassembled the spring mechanism and cleaned the shaft with 4/0 steel wool. A mild kitchen cleanser would have accomplished the same task. It was not difficult to do.
I have no hesitation rating this current model right at the top of the pack. They have made improvements over the one I bought 10 years ago. The industrial design is prettier to look at and the lid can be put on more easily. But the mechanism for controlling pressure appears to be the same, and it is a tried and proved design.

Presto 7 Function Canning Kit Review

Presto 7 Function Canning Kit
Average Reviews:

I got this canning kit because I was tired of picking up boiling-hot canning jars and lids with salad tongs. The lid lifter works very well and does a great job of picking up and transferring lids from their prep water to the jar top and the magnet isn't so strong that you're always fighting it. The jar lifter worked very well for pulling the jars out of my steam canner following their canning cycle. The funnel was very helpful and resulted in the jars being clean even after filling--I only had to wipe 2 out of the 10 that I filled with the funnel, whereas without the funnel I always had to wipe all of my jar lids and then occasionally I would get one jar that didn't stay sealed and several that got stuck to their rims. This is a good kit well worth the

WMF Perfect Plus 8-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker Review

WMF Perfect Plus 8-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I guess I am rhapsodizing over this pressure cooker but it's the 4th one I've tried and I must say I love it!
We remodeled our kitchen and our new cooktop is an induction model so our old (20+ year) aluminum PC no longer worked for us.
I tried Futuro, Kuhn Rikon and some other brand I don't recall. None was both thick enough to prevent food burning and with a simple and easy to use pressure system.
I cook daily for 6 or more and this cooker is big enough to meet all my needs. In the few days I've had it, I've made risotto - no burning, cheesecake - no cracking, chicken cacciatore and brisket. Every recipe was perfect when done.
Clean up is a snap - remove the handle and rinse under running water. Remove the sealing ring and wash by hand. Toss everything else in the dishwasher.
Did I say I love this pressure cooker? Yes, it's expensive but well worth it!
06/27/2010 Edited to add that the pressure release valve with the little ball in it cracked. I called WMF America and they were happy to send a new one. There were no customer service issues at all. The people I spoke to were helpful and courteous.
We still love our cooker and continue to get lots of use from it.

Fagor 9-inch Silicon Gasket Review

Fagor 9-inch Silicon Gasket
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We recently used our 6 liter Fagor pressure cooker for the first time in over a year. It didn't pressurize too well, so I sought a new gasket. I wasn't sure what size to order since our original gasket was 9.5 inches, halfway between the two sizes available. Also it wasn't 100% clear whether the 6 liter cooker takes the same size gasket as the 6 quart. Anyway I am happy to report that the 9" gasket fits the 6 liter cooker just fine. For the record, the new 9" silicone gasket is actually about 9 5/8 inches in diameter. Also for the record, Fagor calls the material silicon, but it is actually silicone. I'm knocking off a star not because of the product, but because the sizing info could easily be made much clearer on both the Fagor website and on Amazon.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Fagor 9-inch Silicon Gasket

A rubber gasket's primary purpose is to create a constant tight seal. Over time a gasket can dry out and lose its elasticity. If you notice this happening, replace the gasket immediately. A worn out gasket can lead to steam not building up, or worse, escaping from your cooker.
