(More customer reviews)I swear there were reviews on this when I first put it on my wishlist.
This is a handy, light, fairly compact shredder that seems to be pretty sturdy for its price range and isn't too hard to clean. It shreds finer than a real julienne (which is supposed to be an eighth of an inch square), almost more of a grate, although where grating gives pretty flat pieces the shreds this cutter makes are almost square in cross-section. Maybe a mini-julienne?
I used it to make hash browns and it was easy to use, although the enclosed hand guard doesn't work well with large chunks of vegetable -- it's basically a knob for gripping mounted in a flat surface, so although it has spikes to help grip a vegetable it kept slipping off the rounded surface of the potato. I found it easier to use my bare hand until the potato was small enough to put my fingers within risk of the blades, and then switch to the hand guard.
It comes with a blade cover that snaps onto the cutting surface and doesn't add any real bulk to its profile for storage.
I will keep and use it, but in a truly crowded or minimalist kitchen you probably don't need both this cutter and a grater. If you need true julienne, another cutter would be better.
