(More customer reviews)Note: My review below was for a different model from what is now currently being sold. Amazon apparently changed the model, but left the reviews of the previous product. The 2316 model is NOT the same as the Easy squeeze. In fact the Easy Squeeze is a decent product (I own this as well). It is easier to squeeze than other models and works fairly well. I'd say its a lot better than the 2316 model reviewed below, but slightly less effective than the 2315 model (but easier to squeeze for small hands) I am leaving this previous review so that people know that the other reviews here may also apply to the other model:"Not Good, not the same as the 2315 model"
After reading the recent Cook's illustrated, I noticed that they stopped recommending the Zyliss presses (now "recommended with reservations"), because of the tendency to have their coatings peel under heavy use. I have owned the Susi Deluxe for 2 years without this problem, although I probably only use it once a week or so. Anyways, I happened to see this Kuhn Rikon model at Marshall's thinking that this the same top rated one in Cook's Illustrated. Even though I was content with what I had, I bought it anyway since it was only ten dollars.
This is not the same model, and (I hope) does not perform nearly as well. Although this model is 2316 (versus top rated 2315), it is NOT an improved version of that model.
Cons:
1. The handles are short, therefore the pressing requires much more effort than the Zyliss models. Pressing a large clove takes too much effort. The 2315 model appears to have longer, better quality handles.
2. This thing struggles with unpeeled cloves with poor yield. If you put 2 small cloves in you will find most of the first clove will press through, but the other clove will press through the back of the hopper. It seems OK with 1 small clove, but who wants to crush 1 small clove at a time?
3. The scraper attachment idea is good, but it does not work well in this model. It doesnt slide smoothly, and sticks often.
Pros:
1. Cleans well. The inside of the hopper flips out, and is mostly flat - This makes for easy cleaning. This design aspect is shared in the 2315 model, which makes these easier to clean than the Zyliss Models (whose hoppers are stationary).
2. Scraper IDEA is good. Although it remains to be seen if this can be successfully done. It does not glide very smoothly on this model - making it almost useless.
All in all this model is terrible. It requires too much effort for too little yield. These are deal-breakers for a garlic press. Get the 2315 model if you are rough on your equipment, or any of the Zyliss models. These appear to perform the best.
