(More customer reviews)People may balk at paying $40 for the top of the line Kuhn Rikon garlic press. Your mind goes, "It's a GARLIC Press! Why should it cost as much as an entree at a high end restaurant? OR dinner for two at the local Chinese..." And then you buy this, thinking 'it's from the same company...' Someone should have hit me over the head, WRONG!
As long as this works, it's fine. You can't overload it with huge or multiple cloves, since it leaks out the sides since the plastic bows slightly. If you keep doing it it breaks/cracks where they put in the plastic insert on the top handle.
It only has a 1 year warranty and that's how long it took to break.
Other than that, it cleans EXTREMELY WELL, the scraper thing is not bad, in fact works well, but not necessary and may be why garlic comes out the sides. When I say out the sides, not by the metal swing cutter, but around the press part of the tool on the side not in the photo above. It's just a bit, but it does 'leak' as they say.
I'm getting the $40 one to replace this. It doesn't leak, it has the same cleaning mechanism, a swing out plate, and it should last me the rest of my life... since I'm sure to use it a few times a week, I suppose it will be worth it over the long term...
BTW: I mailed my broken press to to Kuhn Rikon after a few weeks, they sent me a new one. I only sent my return address, since I couldn't fine a receipt for when I purchased it. Great Company.
